OUR STORY

Artistic Bake Shop was founded on August 1st, 1966, by brothers Anton and Joseph Schwabenbauer, Master Bakers from Germany. They began their journey in a modest 1000 square foot space in Edmonton’s West End, bringing the rich flavors of European and German baking traditions to the local community. Although Joseph later left to pursue a different career, Anton continued the bakery alongside his wife Marianne, who managed the front sales counter. Together with their dedicated staff, they crafted many of the European breads and pastries that remain favorites to this day.

In 1974, Anton and Marianne purchased the current property at 6820 - 104 Street in Edmonton, where the Artistic Bake Shop still proudly serves the local community. After 26 years, their son Perry, who developed his passion for baking from a young age and earned his journeyman's ticket at N.A.I.T., took over ownership in 1992 along with his wife Katherine. Both Perry and Katherine are deeply committed to the baking craft and community development, actively participating in apprenticeship programs and local committees.

Artistic Bake Shop has proudly participated in the Edmonton Heritage Festival since its inception, providing authentic traditional European baked goods to a variety of cultural pavilions. The bakery also supports "Keep Edmonton Original" an organization dedicated to sustaining local and independent businesses.

Today, Artistic Bake Shop continues its legacy by baking all products from scratch, using as many local ingredients as possible, while introducing new recipes that honor tradition and quality. Our dedication to excellent customer service and authentic European flavors remains unwavering, as we strive to bring the warmth of family, heritage, and craftsmanship to every loaf and pastry we create in Edmonton.
